Likely first-round WR Corey Davis could miss combine with ankle injury

NFL Draft, Corey Davis

It’s never easy to make the jump from small school to the big stage, which is something Western Michigan’s Corey Davis appears ready to accomplish. Unfortunately for the talented receiver, he suffered an ankle injury that reportedly could keep him from participating in the 2017 NFL Combine.

This is a tremendous blow to the young receiver. Though his tape will help scouts and personnel decision-makers see his worth, the combine is another critical aspect to scouting players.

A highly productive player for the Broncos in each of his four seasons in Kalamazoo, Davis finished his college career with 331 catches for 5,278 yards and 52 touchdowns. He logged an impressive 19 receiving touchdowns this past season, leading the FBS in that category.

Hopefully Davis will be healthy enough to perform for teams during individual workouts, and he could potentially still hold a pro day, depending on the severity of his injury. Still, for a guy who already has an uphill climb to show he’s a premier player in this draft, suffering an injury at this time is exactly what he didn’t need.
