Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce is a premier talent in the league, as well as a premier personality.
From being fined for his antics that involved “flagging a ref” to starting his own dating show, Kelce is seemingly Rob Gronkowski-lite in this league, both on and off the field.
But when asked about the possibility of him following in Gronkowski’s footsteps and appearing on the cover of Madden, he didn’t exactly seem thrilled at the prospect.
“You know what, that’s a scary thing to even talk about,” Kelce said, per Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk. “I hope Rob comes back stronger than ever and ready to take on the league but man that’s definitely been something that as a kid you always dreamed of being on the cover of a video game or something like that. [But] it seems the curse is alive and it’s a scary thing.”
The “Madden curse” attached to the game has showed up almost every year, with players on the cover suffering some ill fate. While former Madden cover man Odell Beckham Jr. had no fear of the curse, it is seemingly very real.
With a budding career poised for stardom, it makes sense that Kelce would be wary of anything that could affect his ability to make a name for himself. He could potentially follow in the footsteps of the great former Chief, Tony Gonzalez, with a career that could one day land him in the Hall of Fame.
