Ryan Fitzpatrick lofts praise Tom Savage’s way

Texans, Tom Savage

New Houston Texans starting quarterback Tom Savage has been all the talk since he took over for Brock Osweiler in Week 15.

Showing support for his former Texans teammate, New York Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick shared this about Savage.

“Tom is a big, strong kid with a strong arm,” Fitzpatrick said, via the Houston Chronicle. “Definitely a huge competitor. When he got into game mode, he had the right look in his eye. I know coach O’Brien and coach (George) Godsey will put him in a great opportunity and have him well-coached up and Tom will put in the time to understand the game plan. I’m excited to see how he does and I think he’ll take advantage of it.”

Savage was drafted by the Texans back when Fitzpatrick started for the team in 2014. The young quarterback will make his first official career start this Saturday when the Texans host the Cincinnati Bengals.

Savage came to the rescue after the Texans benched Brock Osweiler for yet another horrible performance. Savage helped pull the Texans from behind to manage a 21-20 victory over Jacksonville. He did an excellent job of making DeAndre Hopkins the focal point of the Texans’ offense. This is something that Osweiler has struggled with for 15 weeks.

If the Texans like what they see this Saturday, Savage would be on course to finish out the regular season as the team’s starter. Currently, the Texans are tied with the Tennessee Titans at the top of the AFC South with eight wins.

A win in Week 16 is obviously crucial for Savage and Co. against Cincinnati.
