Report: Western Kentucky hires Notre Dame OC Mike Sanford

Western Kentucky has apparently found a replacement for the successful Jeff Brohm at head coach. According to multiple reports, the Hilltoppers have hired Notre Dame offensive coordinator Mike Sanford to take over the program.

This is a pretty big get for the two-time reigning Conference USA champions. Sanford is widely respected around the college football world and has experience running offenses for both the Irish and Boise State, his alma mater.

Despite a down season for Notre Dame in 2016, its offense still put up 30-plus points per game. An in reality, Sanford was one of the primary reasons DeShone Kizer morphed into one of the nation’s top quarterbacks.

Sanford will take over a Western Kentucky program that boasts Mike White at quarterback and a plethora of other skill-position talent on offense. It should be interesting to see exactly what he brings with him from South Bend and how that will translate to his first college football head coaching gig.
