Report: Jets owner feels ‘betrayed’ by Darrelle Revis

The marriage between future Hall of Famer Darrelle Revis and the New York Jets may not end too swimmingly. In the midst of a disastrous season, the seven-time Pro Bowler simply isn’t living up to his contract.

Adding to this, there’s been reports surface recently that Revis simply may not want to play anymore (via the NY Daily News).

Not only has Revis’ performance come into question this season, his effort seems to be lacking a great deal (watch here).

All this seems to be an indication that Revis is in the midst of his final season with the Jets. Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole pretty much concluded this in a recent report suggesting that team owner Woody Johnson feels betrayed by the cornerback.

“A Jets source indicates that the team may not offer cornerback Darrelle Revis a chance to take a pay cut this offseason, even if he were willing to accept one,” Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole reported Thursday. “Owner Woody Johnson pushed hard for the team to bring back Revis in 2015, but was warned by some people in the organization not to bring back Revis.”

Revis signed a five-year, $70 million contract with the Jets after helping the division rival New England Patriots win the Super Bowl the previous season.

And while the former All Pro had shown signs of slowing down last season, his 2016 performance has been nothing short of disastrous (watch here).

“Johnson has become upset by the way Revis have performed this season, feels betrayed by him, and may not want Revis back at any cost,” Cole continued.

Revis is set to earn $15.3 million next season and has a dead cap hit of $6 million. Should the Jets decide to move on from him altogether, that’s a rather lofty cap hit to take.

Though, it sure beats the heck out of rostering a guy that hasn’t performed at an adequate level and doesn’t seem to have his head in the game.
