Report: Jaguars interested in Josh McDaniels to replace Gus Bradley

Josh McDaniels rule

Josh McDaniels is hot on the radar of the Jacksonville Jaguars, who are reportedly interested in bringing him aboard to become their new head coach. The Gus Bradley era in Jacksonville has been filled with nothing but hope deferred, so it’s not surprising the franchise is looking at its options.

Sam Farmar of the Los Angeles Times reported Jacksonville’s interest while discussing the Los Angeles Rams, who are also reportedly interested in bringing him aboard (more on that here).

“Jacksonville Jaguars general manager Dave Caldwell is believed to be interested in [Josh] McDaniels, so the Los Angeles Rams being on the hunt for a coach could impact how the Jaguars deal with Gus Bradley.”

Both the Jags and Rams feature young quarterbacks who might be broken now but who might also still have a bright future in the league.

Of the two, one would assume Jared Goff is the more attractive option at this point over Blake Bortles, simply because his slate is still relatively clean. Bortles, on the other hand, is going to need some serious TLC to get right after what’s happened to him the past few years under Bradley — a defensive-minded head coach who’s done nothing to help the young passer.

McDaniels is going to be a hot name who’ll likely be mentioned as a possibility for every team that is looking for a new head coach this offseason. He’s got no reason to rush into anything, however, as his current position is also quite prominent. He can bide his time, wait for what he considers an ideal opportunity to strike out on his own for a second time after being ousted in Denver a few years back.

The Jaguars do have some serious talent on both sides of the ball, so it’s not out of the question McDaniels would potentially be interested in coaching this team. But there will be other, potentially more prominent spots opening up soon.
