Report: Cubs close to signing All-Star Koji Uehara

Fresh off the acquisition of dominant reliever Wade Davis from the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday, the defending champion Chicago Cubs are not done adding to their already stacked bullpen.

According to Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald, Chicago is close to signing All-Star reliever Koji Uehara away from the Boston Red Sox.

There’s no information available as it relates to the terms of the deal, but this would add yet another dominant player to a Cubs bullpen that seems to boast one of the deepest group of arms in the majors.

Uehara, 41, posted a 3.45 ERA and 0.96 WHIP for the Red Sox last season. Prior to that, the veteran put up a dominant three-year span that saw him boast ERA’s 1.09, 2.53 and 2.23 respectively.

He figures to join the back end of a bullpen that already includes Hector Rondon, Wade Davis, Pedro Strop, Carl Edwards and Travis Wood.
