Report: Broncos now view Trevor Siemian as long-term solution

Trevor Siemian Broncos

People who like seeing Trevor Siemian starting at quarterback for the Denver Broncos may be in luck. It’s something that we may be seeing for a while.

A report details that while the Broncos have had some apparent infighting between the offense and defense, that frustration has not reached Siemian. In fact, as the offense has been struggling more, Siemian has gained respect with the team’s players and coaches.

“Denver’s offensive coaches have been pushing Siemian heavily, citing his calm demeanor and ability to overcome the typical mistakes of a first-year starter,” Chris Wesseling of NFL.com said. “Whereas rookie Paxton Lynch has looked overmatched in a pair of spot starts, Siemian has shown the field vision, pocket movement, accuracy and streamlined delivery to suggest he can emerge as the long-term solution to Denver’s post-Super Bowl 50 quarterback conundrum.”

Statistically, Siemian has been strong for a first-year starter. He’s completed 61.3 percent of his passes for 3,012 yards, 16 touchdowns, eight interceptions and an 88.1 passer rating. The Broncos have struggled offensively, though. Denver has scored 33 total points in its last three games, one of which was started by Lynch.

The offensive line and running game deserve much of that blame, though. The Broncos are 27th in total rushing yards (1,278) and 28th in yards per carry (3.6). Denver has also allowed 40 sacks, tied for the third worst total in the NFL.

Siemian certainly needs to improve if the Broncos are going to get back to a Super Bowl. But the offense around him will have to get much better as well.
