As the Los Angeles Rams begin the search for their next head coach, many names will be thrown into the mix. This apparently includes current Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll.
Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports reported Tuesday morning that the Rams are dreaming big, wishing on a star that perhaps Carroll could be lured away from his comfy eyrie in Seattle.
“Multiple sources with insight into the earliest stages of the Rams coaching search said there is a monster name that intrigues the power brokers inside the franchise: the Seattle Seahawks’ Pete Carroll. The same Pete Carroll who faces the Rams on Thursday night. The same Pete Carroll who resides inside the NFC West. And the same Pete Carroll who is under contract with Seattle through the 2019 season.”
Heck, if we’re dreaming big, how about Bill Belichick? Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh has also been linked as a potential replacement for the fired Jeff Fisher — a job he reportedly has no interest in.
When asked about the rumor on Tuesday, Carroll first had no desire to comment, per Alden Gonzalez of ESPN. When pressed a bit further on the issue, he made his thoughts quite clear with one word.

Currently engaged in an effort to clinch a playoff spot this weekend (more on that here), Carroll has no reason to move to a different location within the NFL. He’s already got one of the best jobs in the league, coaching a perennial playoff contender that has reached the playoffs the past four years, reached the Super Bowl twice and that won a championship in 2013.
Why in the world would he want to downgrade, especially in his own division?
He wouldn’t.
Kudos to the Rams for having a big dream. But they might need to be a bit more realistic going forward. Perhaps Josh McDaniels (another coach rumored to be on the team’s radar) would be amenable to molding the young Jared Goff and helping Los Angeles emerge from the NFC basement.
