Matt Holliday’s Yankees’ deal has no-trade clause to one team

Matt Holliday is making it pretty darn clear that he doesn’t want to play baseball in one city. Outside of potentially visiting Oakland as a member of the New York Yankees, the veteran has no intention of repeating his nightmarish half season with the Athletics.

According to Chris Cotillo of SB Nation, the recently signed Yankees outfielder’s new contract includes a no-trade clause to one team … the Athletics.

Not that the A’s are an attractive destination or anything. Here’s a team that’s from contention in the American League. It also plays in one of the most rundown stadiums in the sports world.

Though, there’s likely more to Holliday’s demand not to be dealt to Oakland. He spent a half season with the team back in 2009 after Oakland yielded a bounty to the Colorado Rockies in a trade for the former All-Star.

It didn’t go too swimmingly. Holliday did hit .286 with 11 homers and 54 RBI before eventually being dealt to St. Louis after 94 games. The team, however, didn’t necessarily feel that it got the most out of the outfielder. The A’s finished that season with a 75-87 record and cut ties on the Holliday project less than a calendar year in.

The good news for fans in Oakland is that we doubt very much Billy Beane and Co. have any real interest in bringing Holliday back.

Holliday officially signed a one-year deal with the Yankees on Wednesday.
