Despite a torn meniscus, Matt Forte hopes to play this week

Matt Forte

According to Matt Forte, an MRI revealed a torn meniscus in his knee. Forte also indicated that he’s been playing through the injury all season.

Despite that, he hopes to suit up on Saturday when the New York Jets host the Miami Dolphins.

We certainly have to admire Forte’s competitive will here. The Jets are long out of any playoff race. Him wanting to get out and play says a lot about Forte as a professional.

But logically speaking, playing would not be a smart move. Forte turned 31 in December. Most running backs have been out of the league for a few years by the time they hit that age. Any back should be thinking about preserving his body. When a back is as old is Forte, body preservation is even more necessary. Given that New York is on a short week, Forte should at least give more thought into sitting Saturday’s game out.

The ninth-year running back has been effective in 2016. Forte has rushed for 792 yards and seven touchdowns. He’s added 29 receptions for 256 yards and another touchdown as a receiver.
