Derek Carr says he ‘received great news’ in post-surgery message

Derek Carr

Hours after he went under the knife to repair his broken fibula, Oakland Raiders quarterback Derek Carr gave fans a positive report via his Twitter account.

It’s unclear exactly what “great news” means here, but perhaps Carr received news as it relates to his recovery time.

Ahead of Tuesday’s surgery in Los Angeles, a report suggested Carr would be out anywhere between six-to-eight weeks with this injury. Being that Super Bowl LI is set to kick off in Houston, Texas in seven weeks, perhaps Carr has been told he’ll be recovered in time to compete for a championship should Oakland make it that far without him — a notion that one surgeon has already said is quite possible.

While the Raiders have rallied behind Matt McGloin speaking with the media, the simple truth is that McGloin was a backup for a reason. Completing less than 59 percent of his career passes with 11 touchdowns and 11 interceptions, he’s a clear step down from the type of production the Raiders and their fans came to expect with Carr in the lineup.

With that in mind, we’ll be awfully surprised if the Raiders manage to stay alive in the playoffs long enough for Carr to make a return before the 2017 season begins.
