Trent Richardson ran with Alabama scout team as Leonard Fournette

Before the huge Alabama-LSU game last weekend, former Crimson Tide star Trent Richardson helped Nick Saban’s defense prepare for Leonard Fournette. He ran with the scout team to help the defense get used to taking on such a powerful back.

“I think Trent gave a pretty good look, and John Parker, too,” said Alabama cornerback Marlon Humphrey, one of the Crimson Tide’s top draft prospects, according to the Alabama Media Group. “I tackled Trent this week, man. That’s a big guy, man. It’s also pretty cool just to go against those guys, knowing what they’ve done for the program.”

It must have been helpful, because Fournette was a non-factor in the grueling 10-0 win for ‘Bama. The talented running back was shut down to the tune of 35 yards on 17 carries on Saturday night at Tiger Stadium. He had a long run of just nine yards and was rendered ineffective by the front seven of Alabama.

Richardson recently worked out for the Kansas City Chiefs, and there has been some chatter about the Baltimore Ravens bringing him back. He struggled with conditioning and ended up needing knee surgery before being cut loose by Baltimore.

The former No. 3 overall pick by the Cleveland Browns has never lived up to the hype that surrounded him coming out of college in 2012.

He was traded for an Indianapolis Colts first-round pick the next year (one of the worst moves we’ve ever seen, courtesy of Indy general manager Ryan Grigson). Since being released by the Colts in , he’s never been able to stick to an NFL roster.

Despite all that, Richardson is clearly still in love with the game of football. And it’s nice to know he’s getting involved in situations that not only nourish him personally but that also had a positive impact on others.
