Nick Saban rants about idea Alabama can lose and get into Playoff

Nick Saban isn’t buying the sentiment that Alabama can lose the SEC Championship Game and still get into the College Football Playoff. At least that’s what he’s telling himself and his team as it prepares to face Florida this weekend.

Alabama heads into the SEC Championship game against the Gators as the undisputed No. 1 team in the nation with a perfect 12-0 record. The Crimson Tide have beaten five ranked teams along the way, winning most of their games by wide margins.

With this in mind, most pundits have speculated that the upcoming game is not one the Tide must win. Based on the body of work Alabama has put together this year, many have suggested there is no way the SEC powerhouse would fall outside of the top four heading into bowl season.

That’s probably 100 percent correct.

Addressing this idea Monday in his press conference, however, an angry Saban went on a bit of a rant.

“It’s never OK to lose a game,” Saban said, per Rainer Sabin of AL.com. “Maybe if we throw a stink bomb out there in this game, we don’t make the Playoffs.”

Saban also said that the upcoming game will “be a challenge” and that Alabama wants “to win the SEC championship.”

Always pushing for the pinnacle, Saban’s determination to never take any team for granted has served the program well this year. He was livid with his team after the first half a couple of weeks ago against Chattanooga, despite taking a 14-3 lead into the locker room (more on that here). Not surprisingly, they went on a nice second-half run to win handily, 31-3.

Florida comes into Saturday’s game without any real momentum after getting blasted by Florida State last weekend. We fully expect ‘Bama to crush the Gators in this one, especially considering Saban’s attitude and the team’s defensive dominance this season.
