Danny Trevathan has ruptured patellar tendon, out for year

The Chicago Bears have been bitten by the injury bug more than any team in the NFL this year, and they watched another starter go down for the season Sunday. Linebacker Danny Trevathan suffered a ruptured patellar tendon and is out for the year.

Trevathan was one of the team’s prized free-agent acquisitions this past spring. He was lured away from the Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos on a four-year deal that includes $12 million guaranteed.

Before his injury, Trevathan had tallied 66 tackles and a sack for Chicago.

This is just one more devastating injury in a long line of them this year for the Bears.

The team lost in agonizing fashion to the Tennessee Titans on Sunday, losing 27-21 after two passes from Matt Barkley were dropped in the end zone on the game’s final drive. With a record of 2-9, the Bears are looking like a lock to pick among the top five next April in the 2017 NFL Draft.
