Report: Dallas fears Morris Claiborne out indefinitely with sports hernia

Morris Claiborne

The Dallas Cowboys could be without starting cornerback Morris Claiborne for the foreseeable future after he suffered an injury during Sunday night’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Claiborne has been playing well for the Cowboys this year, tallying 26 tackles, five passes defended and an interception. It could be argued he’s been playing better this year than at any point in his career for what’s been a surprisingly impressive Cowboys pass defense, which makes this injury sting all the more.

Should Claiborne miss extended time then it will fall to Orlando Scandrick and rookie Anthony Brown to pick up the slack in his absence. Dallas isn’t exactly deep at the cornerback position and the market is thin.

Of course, this could potentially cause the Cowboys to inquire about cornerback Joe Haden of the Cleveland Browns, who has been reportedly dangled as trade bait by the Moneyball crew in Cleveland.

Interestingly, Dallas’ next opponent is the Browns in Week 9, who’ll get a dose of Dak Prescott while Tony Romo remains sidelined.
