Urban Meyer gives heartfelt September 11 anniversary speech

On the eve of the 15-year anniversary of one of the greatest modern American tragedies in our history, Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer gave a heartfelt speech honoring those who serve the nation.

He gave the speech on Saturday morning before the Buckeyes were to take on Tulsa.

“Tomorrow is September 11th. Fifteen years ago, the unthinkable happened,” Meyer told the crowd (h/t ElevenWarriors.com). “On this day, our thoughts and prayers are with the families that were directly impacted and also for the men and women who protect us every day who are in harm’s way, the men and women who serve in our military, the men and women in public service. Thank you very much for what you do.

“One thing history proves to everybody. Nothing is guaranteed. A bunch of people walked into that building fifteen years ago making dinner reservations, sending flowers to loved ones, and the world changed that day. History tells us there is no guarantee in life.”

It was a touching tribute, respectful of the nearly 3,000 lives that were list and honoring those who risk their lives every day, knowing disaster could strike at any time.
