Report: Hue Jackson was ‘consumed’ with fixing Robert Griffin III

Hue Jackson Cleveland Browns NFL coaches

The Cleveland Browns were dealt a pretty big blow during the first weekend of regular season action. It didn’t come in the form of a disheartening 29-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Though, that wasn’t a good look for first-year head coach Hue Jackson.

Instead, it came in the form of a serious shoulder injury starting quarterback Robert Griffin III suffered late in the game.

While Griffin III was able to continue on after being hit on his non-throwing shoulder, he was promptly placed on injured reserve the following day (more on that here).

With Griffin III now potentially lost for the season, Cleveland has to turn to veteran backup Josh McCown.

It’s in this that some within the Browns’ organization believe Jackson might very well be able to finally coach his team.

That’s a somewhat alarming quote from someone close to the Browns. If true, one has to wonder just how much Jackson’s infatuation with fixing Griffin III hurt the team during training camp and the preseason.

Boasting a 2-17 record in his past 19 starts, McCown doesn’t seem to be the answer here. At the very least, his presence might help the Browns’ rookie head coach move on from the Griffin III project.
