Johnny Manziel back at school to keep promise to parents

It came as quite a shock to discover Johnny Manziel was back at Texas A&M and had enrolled in classes. Now we know why.

Manziel spoke with TMZ, which caught up with him Monday. He said he’s back in school to fulfill a promise made to his parents.

“I’m trying to get back to my roots. I need to get my degree like I told my parents I would,” Manziel said.

Manziel left Texas A&M without a degree. He was studying towards a degree in recreation, parks and tourism sciences.

It’s hard to say where this new focus will take Manziel. He’s previously stated that he does want to get back to playing in the NFL (more on that here), which seems far-fetched at this point.

The one thing we can take away from Manziel’s desire to live up to a promise to his parents is that at least he’s doing something positive with his life. Regardless of his motivation, at least he’ll be working towards something besides getting hammered at clubs.

In the meantime, his indictment for assault is still an issue that has yet to be resolved.
