Jared Goff to be a healthy inactive in season opener

The Rams won't consider Tony Romo, just a year after trading up for Jared Goff

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Jared Goff won’t even be in uniform when they take on the squad he grew up rooting for this upcoming week.

The rookie No. 1 overall pick will be a healthy inactive as the team’s third quarterback behind Case Keenum and Sean Mannion.

“Jared’s had a great camp, so has Sean. Case is clearly our starter,” head coach Jeff Fisher said Tuesday, via NFL.com. “I think Week 1 just to settle things down … it’s probably going to be, like I mentioned last week, it’s probably going to be three and inactive. That’s just how it goes.”

This shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise. After struggling through the preseason, the Rams made it clear that they were going to bring Goff along slowly.

It’s still not necessarily a good sign that Fisher and Co. don’t view Goff worthy of being one of the two quarterbacks to suit up during game day.

Los Angeles takes on the cross-state rival San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football in the team’s regular season opener.
