Dez Bryant says he will not play Sunday against 49ers

Dez Bryant will not suit up for the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday when they take on the San Francisco 49ers as he recovers from a knee injury.

This news comes just a few hours after Cowboys owner Jerry Jones wouldn’t rule his receiver out, saying it was a matter of whether or not Bryant could play through the pain (more on that here).

Bryant has a hairline fracture in his knee. Despite assurances from team doctors that he is not in danger of further injuring the knee, taking the prudent approach seems wise in this case. Bryant missed a large portion of last year with a foot injury and then was not as dangerous when he did come back too soon.

Additionally, the Cowboys shouldn’t feel too threatened without Bryant in the lineup this weekend. The 49ers aren’t exactly frightening anyone these days. Despite shutting the Los Angeles Rams out in Week 1, San Francisco has allowed more than 27 points per game through three games.
