Jerry Jones: Dez Bryant might play Sunday if he can handle pain

Despite the fact that Dez Bryant has a hairline fracture in his knee, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones didn’t rule out his receiver for Sunday’s matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

Jones, speaking with reporters, via Jon Machota of Dallas News, said the knee injury is “a pain thing” and that Bryant will see how much he can handle. He also revealed that team doctors have made it clear they are not worried about further damage if he does play. Instead, “It’s the ability to perform with pain.”

Bryant hasn’t had a strong start to the season. He’s caught just 11 passes for 150 yards and one touchdown in three games playing with rookie Dak Prescott.

However, with teams double-teaming him and focusing on stopping Ezekiel Elliott and the running game, Cole Beasley has been a beneficiary. Beasley has caught 20 passes for 213 yards as Prescott’s go-to man in the passing game.

Should Bryant be unable to tolerate the pain on Sunday against the 49ers, then it will be interesting to see if the Cowboys will have any consistent success through the air. Despite his lack of measurable production, Bryant has made an impact on games.

Thankfully for the Cowboys and Bryant, it might not be the end of the world if he is unable to play Sunday. San Francisco has allowed 377 yards and over 27 points per game this year, despite shutting out the Los Angeles Rams in Week 1.
