Report: Ray Lewis III indicted by grand jury on sexual assault charges

Ray Anthony Lewis III, the son of former NFL All-Pro Ray Lewis, has been indicted by a South Carolina grand jury on a charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

Lewis is being charged from an incident in January, where he’s alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman.

“The former Coastal Carolina University cornerback is accused of sexually assaulting an 18-year-old woman while knowing she was under the influence, Conway City Police said,” detailed Tim Prudente of the Baltimore Sun.

While the charges only involve one woman, two women claimed they were assaulted by him at the hospital on the evening of the alleged assault.

At this time, neither Lewis, his father or attorney have made any public comments. When Lewis was arrested in April, his attorney, Edward T.M. Garland, released the following statement, per Prudente.

“At the time of the sexual encounter, the two girls involved were fully conscious of what they were doing and knowingly consented. We are confident that a thorough evaluation of the facts will show that there was no crime committed.”

In April, Coastal Carolina’s football team suspended Lewis indefinitely. No date for a trial has been scheduled.
