Cam Newton feeds homeless man, teammate says it’s nothing new

Cam Newton may be the NFL’s best player. His MVP trophy certainly helps his argument in that case. And with so many bad off the field stories constantly circulating about the NFL and its players, the MVP has been stepping up.

In an interview with GQ Magazine, he made it clear that any criticism lobbed his way has nothing to do with racism. He wants to believe the nation has risen above such things.

He also has a heart to help those who are in need.

While the Carolina Panthers were on the road for a preseason game against the Baltimore Ravens, Newton provided food for a homeless man on the streets.

One person who witnessed the event was Candace Gregory. She was quite moved by it all.

“People talk about him dabbing and all the stuff that in my mind ultimately should be irrelevant, because that doesn’t get to the heart of who he is,” said Gregory per ESPN’s David Newton. “I once saw him give something to a disabled child at a practice and people were like, ‘Oh, it’s a photo opportunity.’ But this was when nobody was looking. That’s why we shared it, because character is what you do when nobody is looking.”

Indeed, this is a side of Newton that he consistently shows. His teammate, Joe Webb, said this is nothing new.

Unfortunately, it does not get enough attention, but perhaps that’s just the way Newton likes it.

For this, the MVP deserves nothing but praise.
