Brandon Marshall swung at Darrelle Revis during Jets practice

Darrelle Revis and Brandon Marshall were getting into it big time on Friday, culminating with Marshall taking a swing at Revis during New York Jets practice.

“Marshall was on the sideline and walked over to Revis, who was on the field,” wrote ESPN’s Rich Cimini. “They exchanged words and Marshall threw a punch with his right hand. They were quickly separated. Quincy Enunwa literally picked up Marshall and carried him away. Marshall had been jawing at Revis throughout the practice. Fireworks at Jets camp.”

Fireworks, indeed.

The punch was the result of about an hour of jawing between the two, which started out looking pretty good-natured.

But things quickly spiraled downward, with Marshall at one point going to character assassination.

No doubt, the two of them will hash this out. They are both two of the most competitive, talented men at their respective positions around the NFL.

One has to imagine that head coach Todd Bowles loves the fiery nature of their competition. But he cannot love the punch. After all, last year’s training camp was marred by a punch, and the person who threw it ended up getting tossed from the team.

Bowles needs to reel in his veteran leaders before things really get out of hand this summer.
