Report: New Broncos’ contract offer not enough for Von Miller

Von MIller COVID-19

The Denver Broncos have reportedly upped their offer to Von Miller on a long-term deal, but he’s still not happy about it.

Mike Klis of 9News in Denver and Ed Werder of ESPN both reported Friday that the Broncos had made adjustments to the amount of guaranteed money Miller could receive on the new proposal. More specifically, the third year would be guaranteed earlier in the deal compared to earlier proposals, along with the first two years, per Werder.

The general construct of the deal will reportedly remain the same — a six-year contract worth $114.5 million.

In concert with those reports comes one from Jason Cole of Bleacher Report, who indicates that the new terms still won’t satisfy Miller.

In addition to the fact that Miller will still be seeking more guaranteed money, per Cole, he is also still “extremely upset about the way the Broncos have handled the negotiations” over the course of the past month. Furthermore, Miller is reportedly upset with Elway himself for how the terms of the deal were leaked to the press.

We saw how Miller recently cropped Elway out of an Instagram post, indicating a potentially contentious relationship. Clearly, the pass rusher was hoping he and the Broncos could work on this deal in the shadows without public scrutiny. Unfortunately for him, that’s not how these things work.

Time is running out for a deal to get finalized. There is just one week remaining until the July 15 deadline. If no deal is struck by then, Miller will either have to sit the season out or sign the exclusive franchise tag worth $14.26 million. It’s hardly chump change, but it’s also nowhere near the amount of money he feels he deserves.
