Report: David Lee signs with the Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs have reportedly signed free agent big man David Lee to a two-year contract.

This is somewhat of a surprise considering Lee had expressed interest in joining his former Golden State Warriors squad earlier in the summer (more on that here).

It’s also a darn good move by one of the best organizations in the game.

While Lee hasn’t performed at the All-Star level we saw earlier in his career, he’s been a decent bench option over the past couple seasons.

The 33-year-old forward averaged 8.5 points and 7.0 rebounds while shooting 53 percent from the field between the Boston Celtics and Dallas Mavericks last season.

He figures to fill the role that the recently departed David West held last season. That is to say Lee will be one of the team’s first players off the bench.

Interestingly enough, this comes mere weeks after West joined Lee’s former team, the Golden State Warriors.
