Todd Gurley wants more catches this season

Second-year running back Todd Gurley proved any doubters he had completely wrong when he walked away earning the AP NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year honors in 2015.

Now, Gurley envisions an enhanced role as a pass catcher with his newly relocated Los Angeles Rams.

“I’ve got to get more catches this year, stay healthy and then run the ball,” Gurley said per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.

This would, of course, be a dream come true for those fantasy football folks who earn points for running back receptions.

Gurley was plenty successful as a rusher when he recorded 1,106 yards and 10 touchdowns in his 13 games last season. Though not much of a factor in the Rams’ lagging passing game, Gurley tallied only 21 receptions for 188 yards.

In 2016, Gurley should be working with rookie Jared Goff under center when the Rams attempt to revive their 32nd-ranked passing game.

Gurley is also hoping in his second year to become more of a locker room leader.

“I just kind of do my game,” Gurley said. “I feel like sometimes I can be a natural leader more in terms of being in the weight room, working hard. Guys see that and they feed off of that. So, just basically doing what I’m doing, not doing anything extra and making sure I’m holding myself accountable, as well as my teammates.”

Gurley’s refreshing attitude naturally makes him a standout not only with his Rams, but among other younger players in the NFL.

With some exciting changes on the horizon for the Rams this fall, fans can’t help but hope their team will be on the uptrend in 2016.
