Stephen Curry: I am not playing to take LeBron’s throne

Stephen Curry

For the second consecutive season, Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry will take on Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James in the Finals after winning the NBA MVP.

It’s a series that could very well define this era of basketball as we know it.

Can the Warriors cap off their history-making season by defeating King James and the Cavaliers in the Finals for the second consecutive year? If so, will that enable Curry to take over as the face of the Association?

If you ask the two-time reigning MVP, he couldn’t care less about this aspect of the upcoming series. Instead, he just wants to continue to win rings.

In order for Curry and the Warriors to defend their title, they will have to fend off a red-hot Cavaliers team that has its full plethora of stars in the mix. That wasn’t the case last June when both Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love missed the Finals.

It’s also an opportunity for Golden State to prove naysayers wrong. If it is able to beat a healthy Cavaliers squad, last year’s title won’t be seen as a fluke by the majority of skeptics out there.

For King James and Co., the goal is clear. Bring a title back to the city of Cleveland for the first time in over a half century.

That’s likely James’ primary focus here, not retaining his title as the throne-sitter in the modern day NBA.
