Apparently hacking sports Twitter accounts is all the rage these days. The SEC now joins the NFL and others as a victim of these pranks.
Saturday morning the SEC’s Twitter account was hacked by someone who posted adult images and links to the social media platform.
The SEC became aware of the violation when the person running the account started getting notifications of retweets.
“We became aware of it when we saw some retweets,” SEC spokesman Herb Vincent said in a statement, via ESPN. “The images were removed immediately, our password changed and we notified Twitter. We will, of course, continue to monitor the account closely today.”
We won’t show any of the images, but Matt Scalici of the Alabama Media Group had an interesting take on who might be responsible.
The NFL said after it was hacked that it would be upgrading security and would be speaking to police about investigating the breach. Perhaps the SEC should follow suit.
Or, perhaps the SEC could go the route of Joe Flacco, who had an interesting response to a hacked Baltimore Ravens fan account that reported his “death.”
Whatever the case, these hack attacks aren’t likely going away any time soon.
