Rob Gronkowski shaves head to support children battling cancer

Rob Gronkowski

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is known more for his frat-party lifestyle off the field than anything else. But he’s surely made it a point to support communities throughout the United States, using his high profile to help those in need.

Gronk was at it again this weekend, shaving his head to show unity with children battling cancer.

The event took place at Gillette Stadium on Sunday as part of the One Mission Cancer Buzz Off program.

Similar events took place at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia in May and Global Life Park in Texas earlier in the spring.

It’s a seemingly minor show of support, but considering these kids battling the horrendous disease often find themselves losing their hair due to cancer, it shows a united front on the part of the athletes.

This marked the fifth straight year that the Patriots tight end has shaved his head as a part of the program.

“This is just an unbelievable event,” Gronkowski told the crowd as his hair was getting buzzed. “Just seeing kids, what they’re going through, puts a feeling in you that you want to help them out,” the Pro Bowler said on Sunday, via ESPN. “You want to raise awareness for all the kids going through the hard times, the struggles, to know that there’s someone there at all times for them.”

It’s great to see high-profile athletes give back like this. Supporting charities with cash is one thing. Giving your time is a completely different thing.

Seeing children with smiles on their faces as they shave the head of one of the most recognizable football players in the world. Well, that will stay with them for a long time.
