Report: Los Angeles Clippers trying to move up in the NBA Draft

Clippers, Doc Rivers

As the entire NBA world sets its sights on the Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors, all 30 of the Association’s teams are preparing for the upcoming 2016 NBA Draft.

Set to start in just over two weeks, this year’s version of the draft might be among the most-talented we’ve seen in recent history.

This has those squads picking high in the lottery at a distinct advantage. The value of said picks couldn’t be any better right now.

One playoff team looking to find their way up in the first round of the draft are the Los Angeles Clippers.

Picking 25th overall, it’s highly unlikely the Clippers will be able to move up into the top 10. It’s also not yet known who they might be targeting.

What we do know is that they need to add some talented young blood to compete with the best the Western Conference has to offer.

Prior to seeing both Chris Paul and Blake Griffin go down in the first round of the playoffs, Los Angeles was teetering between contention and irrelevance. This is only magnified by the presence of Golden State, San Antonio and Oklahoma City in the conference.

The Clippers do have a couple decent assets to offer to other teams in a potential move-up scenario.

Guard Austin Rivers played extremely well during the 2015-16 season, and is set to earn just $3.1 million next season.

Fellow guard J.J. Redick could also be someone that interests other squads. Based on his performance this past season, his $7.1 million price tag can be seen as relatively cheap.

Rebuilding teams likely won’t want to take on these two players, but a squad like the Toronto Raptors (picking ninth overall) could make some sense.

As it is, this is something we should definitely keep an eye on moving forward.
