Report: CBS dumping NFL rules analyst Mike Carey

Mike Carey has been the guy we love to yell at when watching NFL games on CBS the past couple of years. Habitually awful when it came to just about everything having to do with on-field calls, you could almost count on the fact that he’d be wrong.

Now, it appears CBS is tired of being mocked for featuring Carey. Per Bob Raissman of the New York Daily News, Carey is being fired.

“The Carey era at CBS Sports (okay it was only two years) is over, at least according to NFL TV sources who do not expect the network to bring the former referee back as its rules analyst for the 2016 season,” Raissman writes.

Interestingly, CBS will reportedly not hire another retired NFL referee to take Carey’s spot. Instead, Raissman is reporting the network could turn to NFL vice president of officiating, Dean Blandino, who continues to confound us with his conversations about the asinine catch rule (more on that here).

I think we can all agree this is the right move. Carey was the worst. That said, games on CBS will be a bit more boring without him as a pinata to pound on during the games.
