Hue Jackson not prepared to name starting quarterback

Hue Jackson

Cleveland Browns head coach Hue Jackson said early in May that the team would announce its starting quarterback “way before we play.”

OTA’s have since been completed and the Browns would appear to be no closer to revealing the hush, hush secret as to who will be the team’s starting quarterback.

Heavy speculation would suggest Robert Griffin III would be leading the pack based on earlier praises by Jackson to RGIII.

Griffin will have to stand out against his competition, which includes rookie third-round pick Cody Kessler and veterans Josh McCown, Austin Davis and Connor Shaw.

Jackson is in no rush to make a decision at this time.

“When the time is right, trust me, you guys will be the first to know,” he said, via Andrew Gribble of clevelandbrowns.com.

Considering the Browns’ legendarily horrific bad luck at the quarterback position, it would not be shocking at all to see any combination of the four guys under center this fall.

If Griffin finally gets the nod to start, he cannot be counted on to stay healthy.

The good news is the Browns have finally rid themselves of Johnny Manziel, so any of the above quarterbacks constitute a breath of fresh air around the Dawg Pound.
