New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees is jumping on the bandwagon of those who have recently claimed they want to go for more two-point conversions this season.
Furthermore, Brees is advocating that the Saints go for it more on fourth downs as well this year.
“Personally, I feel like if we went for two, we could make it more than 50 percent of the time, and I think fourth down, depending on where you are on the field, if you’re in a manageable situation we could convert most fourth downs. So I’m all for it,” Brees said per the Dan Patrick Show (h/t Pro Football Talk).
Ben Roethlisberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers just said that he wants to go for two after every touchdown this season. Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy also shared a similar sentiment.
Regarding Brees, the Saints led the league in passing last season with a total of 4,970 yards. Their offense also scored a total of 48 touchdowns. If the Saints keep up this pace in 2016, Brees could be attempting an average of three two-point conversions per game.
The Saints also ranked No. 1 on fourth down, converting on 10-of-16 attempts. Considering Brees himself completed 68.3 percent of his passes, the odds are in favor of the Saints finding success on two-point conversions this upcoming season.
Hopefully this strategy will aid in the Saints improving on the seven wins they accomplished last year.
