Stephen Curry: I don’t care what Russell Westbrook thinks

There’s going to be a certain energy in the building at Chesapeake Arena on Saturday night when the Oklahoma City Thunder look to close out the Golden State Warriors in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals.

It’s the biggest game thus far in the NBA Playoffs, and it pits potentially half of the Association’s top-10 players against one another in a battle that will help determine who hoists the Larry O’Brien Trophy next month.

Adding to this energy and drama is a not-so-subtle feud taking place between star Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook and two-time reigning NBA MVP Stephen Curry.

The drama started following Golden State’s season-saving Game 5 win in Oakland on Thursday. After that game, an outing that saw Curry and Westbrook both drop 31 points, Russ chuckled at question regarding Curry’s ability on defense.

Westbrook’s somewhat comedic response to the question brought on a bit of controversy, especially considering it came minutes after Curry and the Warriors held him to 11-of-28 shooting with seven turnovers.

Adding to that is the fact that the All-Star has struggled with Curry on him throughout the series.

Curry decided that Saturday afternoon, just hours before his team puts its season on the line, was the best time to respond to Westbrook’s post-game antics from Thursday.

“Honestly, I could care less about other people’s opinion of me,” Curry said. “I know what I do for my team.”

This brings an entirely new dimension to the huge Game 6 outing between these two clubs and these two elite-level NBA players.

How each responds will play a huge role in the outcome of the game.

Should Curry get the best of his counterpart, this game will likely be extended to a do-or-die scenario back in Oakland where the Warriors have won 93 percent of their games under Steve Kerr.

Should Westbrook perform at a higher clip than Curry, Oklahoma City will likely end the Warriors’ historical season, setting into motion a matchup with LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals.

Get your popcorn ready, ladies and gents.
