Seahawks won’t use No. 24 out of respect for Marshawn Lynch

There has only ever been, another “Beast Mode,” in the NFL, and there never will be. Marshawn Lynch was a one-of-a-kind player for the Seattle Seahawks, and he is to be treated as such.

Out of respect for the running back, the franchise won’t let any incoming players wear the No. 24 this season.

“One of my last conversations with Marshawn was that nobody was going to wear No. 24 this year in the regular season,” Seahawks general manager John Schneider said Monday during an appearance on 710 ESPN Seattle’s “Brock and Salk” show, via Sheil Kapadia of ESPN.com.

If it were up to Lynch’s former Seahawks teammates, nobody would wear his number for a long, long time.

Perhaps a bit tongue in cheek, check out Schneider’s response to Doug Baldwin Jr.’s tweet, per Kapadia: “I appreciate [Baldwin’s] input,” Schneider said. “I’m glad he wants to help distribute jersey numbers.”

Lynch’s contributions to Seattle’s championship in 2013 and overall dominance the past few years have been many. He’ll forever be remembered for his unforgettable 67-yard “Beast Quake” run in the 2010 Wild Card Game against the New Orleans Saints.

During Lynch’s six years in Seattle, he rushed for 6,347 yards with 57 touchdowns and caught 158 passes for 1,309 yards and eight touchdowns. He also rushed for 937 yards and nine touchdowns in the playoffs.

The Seahawks would be smart to forever keep the No. 24 untouchable for future players, because nobody else could ever make that jersey look that good again.
