Seahawks officially place Marshawn Lynch on retired list

Any real hope that former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch would change his mind and come out of retirement can now be thrown out the window.

The team officially placed Lynch on the reserved/retired list on Thursday, pretty much ending his NFL career.

“Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch announced his intentions to retire during Super Bowl 50 with a single Tweet,” the team’s press release read. “On Thursday, that transaction became official, with the Seahawks placing Lynch on the reserve/retired list.”

The Seahawks’ organization also sent out a tribute video to Lynch upon announcing that his retirement had become official:

As the heart and soul of the team’s offense for the past six seasons, it’s not going to be easy for Seattle to replace Lynch. He rushed for over 6,300 yards and 57 touchdowns during his stay in the Pacific Northwest.

Seattle does have a talented young running back in Thomas Rawls, but he’s coming off a serious leg injury he suffered late in his rookie campaign last year.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks added three running backs in last week’s draft. Notre Dame’s C.J. Prosise was selected in the third round, followed by Alex Collins in the fifth round and Zac Brooks in the seventh.

Lynch ends his NFL career having put up over 11,000 total yards in nine years between the Buffalo Bills and Seattle Seahawks.

He had initially announced his retirement on Twitter during Super Bowl 50 back in February.
