Report: Prince was in talks for first concert at U.S. Bank Stadium

The new Minnesota Vikings stadium, U.S. Bank Stadium, is scheduled to open on August 3 this year. And according to a report by Rochelle Olson of The Star Tribune, former rock legend Prince was in talks to perform in concert on August 13.

Prince, who was native to Minnesota, sadly passed away at the age of 57 on April 21. He is famous for many classic songs including “Purple Rain”, “Let’s Go Crazy” and “Little Red Corvette.”

The following statement by The Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority sheds light on what would have been the first concert held at U.S. Bank Stadium, per the report:

“We can confirm that U.S. Bank Stadium had preliminary discussions with Prince’s people about a concert in the new stadium. The discussions only surrounded his interest in performing at the stadium. No other details were discussed.”

U.S. Bank Stadium will play home for Super Bowl LII on February 4, 2018. Prior speculation is that Prince could have been invited to be involved with the half-time show or pre-game entertainment.

Prince was a Vikings fan, so perhaps the Vikings and the Minneapolis music community will organize a tribute to the music legend when the new stadium officially opens.

Country artist Luke Bryan is scheduled to be the first to perform at U.S. Bank Stadium on August 19. On the following day, Metallica will play its only scheduled show of 2016.
