Padres and Mariners not among those in on Tim Lincecum

Former San Francisco Giants ace and two-time Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum hasn’t pitched in the Majors this season.

No team signed him during the winter, instead the pitcher opted for a public workout in Arizona last Friday. Nearly two dozen teams attended the showcase, including the San Diego Padres, Seattle Mariners, San Francisco Giants and Oakland Athletics out on the west coast.

Lincecum would be happy landing any job in the Majors after regressing at an alarming rate in each of the past four seasons. Though, he’s expected to sign with a team out on the west coast.

Interestingly enough, it’s now being reported that neither the Mariners or Padres are interested in his services:

This would seem to leave his former Giants team and the cross-bay rival Athletics as the two likeliest destinations. Though, the suddenly pitching-starved Los Angeles Angels could definitely come into play here.

They lost two key ingredients in the rotation to injury, including ace Garrett Richards, who is likely to undergo Tommy John surgery.

The team did add starter Jhoulys Chacin in a trade with the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday, but that’s a minor deal in the grand scheme of things.

Meanwhile, San Francisco seems to view Lincecum more as a reliever than a starter.

A two-time Cy Young winner with four All-Star appearances, the 31-year-old Lincecum has fallen on tough times recently. He posted a 7-4 record with a 4.13 ERA in 15 starts prior to being shut down to injury last June.

That came on the heels of Lincecum posting a combined 32-38 record in his previous three seasons in San Francisco, putting up a WHIP of nearly 1.40 during that span.

It will definitely be interesting to see where this former ace lands and how he’s utilized moving forward.
