NFL penalizes Ravens for violating off-season rules

Ravens

The Baltimore Ravens received their punishment for violating the NFL’s rules against contact during specific off-season programs.

The punishment in and of itself isn’t too damning for the Ravens, though it could have some impact on the team’s ability to prepare for the 2016 season.

Baltimore has to forfeit a week of organized team activities in early June. Meanwhile, both the organization and head coach John Harbaugh were fined an unspecified amount of money for their involvement in the rules violation.

The Ravens released this statement following the league’s punishment announcement.

“We made a mistake and we are sorry for that. We accept the NFL discipline,” the organization said, via NFL.com.

The issue at hand here was Baltimore using full pads during its rookie mini-camp in early May, following the 2016 NFL Draft. That’s a clear violation of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

It’s readily apparent that the Ravens are not too unhappy with the punishment. After all, it could have included a loss of draft picks and more severe penalties.
