Lions still bitter about facemask call against Packers

Where did Aaron Rodgers rank among the top 100 NFL players heading into 2017?

Everyone remembers the Hail Mary thrown by Aaron Rodgers to give the Green Bay Packers a victory over the Detroit Lions in Week 13 of the 2015 season.

What many don’t remember is the facemask call on Devin Taylor the play before the Hail Mary with zeroes left on the clock that gave Rodgers that one extra shot at the victory.

Needless to say, the Lions and their fans remember.

Looking back at the play, it’s easy to see that Taylor does barely graze the facemask but doesn’t actually inflict any torque upon it. It really shouldn’t have been enforced as a 15-yard penalty and automatic first down, and the Packers shouldn’t have been granted their final shot.

But nobody in their right mind could see the play in real time without thinking it actually was a facemask. The way Taylor spun Rodgers around so forcefully, it sure looked like a penalty.

And in the end, while the Lions are bitter about the whole thing, most of the rest of us were just thrilled to see Rodgers’ unreal bomb on the next play to win the game (watch here).
