Every once in a while, we need some good news around the sports world. Something to remind us that these guys and gals are living a dream. That they have put in the work to be among the most successful in their chosen field.
Duke head football coach David Cutcliffe, a success story in his own right, provided walk-on defensive end Danny Doyle with just this recently.
Holding a team meeting with his players, Cutcliffe interrupted his opening statement by answering a phone call — something that’s frowned upon when the team is in a meeting.
As the players let their head coach know this by mockingly coughing when Cutcliffe answered the phone, he called on Doyle to take ownership of his cell.

As you can see above, Doyle’s parents were on the other end to inform him that the football program had offered him a scholarship.
We’ve seen similar videos in the past, but this was a creative way of getting Doyle to learn the news in front of his equally excited teammates.
For this, Cutcliffe and the Blue Devils deserve a huge round of applause.
