Professionally, it’s been a rough week for Toronto Blue Jays manager John Gibbons, who was ejected for the third time this week.

Minnesota Twins pitcher Phil Hughes threw behind reigning AL MVP Josh Donaldson. The Twins were possibly upset with Donaldson for staring towards their dugout after a home run in the first inning.

When Gibbons came out to argue that Hughes should be disciplined, he earned an ejection.

Dating back to last Sunday, this is now the sixth game that Gibbons has failed to see the end of his team’s game due to ejections or suspensions.

Remember, Gibbons was not ejected because of his actions in the Rougned Odor vs. Jose Bautista fracas. He had already been ejected at that point. His decision to come out onto the field during the brawl certainly contributed to his suspension, as did the resulting altercation with Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister.

The positive end of this is that Toronto’s players know beyond a shadow of a doubt that their manager will stick up for them. No player would ever call that a bad thing.

The bad news is that the Blue Jays are clearly struggling right now. Even with Sunday’s win, they’re 3-5 going back to last Sunday. Having the manager around for the full game might help turn that around.
