Aaron Rodgers wants to produce documentaries after NFL career

Aaron Rodgers

Arguably the best quarterback in the NFL, Aaron Rodgers has some interesting plans for himself after his football career comes to an end.

The Green Bay Packers quarterback wants to produce documentaries, among other things. Speaking with teammate A.J. Hawk on his podcast (The Hawk Cast) last week, Rodgers opened up about his love of documentaries and how they can be used to open up peoples’ eyes to things they’d never be privy to otherwise.

“I just want to continue to learn,” Rodgers said (h/t ESPN). …“I’m a fan of documentaries, and to be able to be a part of a group that’s bringing awareness to subjects that don’t get a lot of attention at times [is appealing]. I enjoy the TV program VICE, because they tackle some really interesting issues. To be a part of something like that would be really interesting.”

This offers some interesting insight into what is important to Rodgers, who isn’t your typical jock. He notes in the interview that being around actress girlfriend Olivia Munn has opened his eyes to a different world. His intelligence has always been evident on the playing field. It will be interesting to see what kind of fruit will eventually come from his labor as a documentary filmmaker, if he does indeed go down that road.

Rodgers also said he’d like to play “for another six, seven, eight years.”

“I’m turning 33 in December, and I feel like I’m playing my best football and have been for a number of years now,” said Rodgers. “I don’t think there’s an end in the near future to me playing at a really high level. Obviously, you want to go out on your own terms, you want to go out as a champion, but that only happens for a select few. The last thing you want to do is go out and not be able to play worth a damn.”

Whether or not Rodgers can play as long as his heart desires has a lot to do with Green Bay’s ability to protect him. Last year’s offensive line was abysmal, and Rodgers took too many hits. He ended up taking 46 sacks, second-most in the league behind Blake Bortles.

If the Packers can protect him, Rodgers will eventually go down as one of the greatest quarterbacks in NFL history, especially if he can bring another title back to Titletown.
