The Denver Broncos have been pushing to make a trade for San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick this offseason. However, according to Mike Klis of 9News in Denver such a deal is “not likely” to occur during the 2016 NFL Draft.
Klis says there has been “zero talks” between the two clubs, presumably since Kaepernick made it clear he would not be interested in taking a pay cut of up to $16 million over two years to move from San Francisco to Denver.
At this point in the game, though, with the NFL Draft literally hours away, any report must be taken with a grain of salt. This isn’t to say that reporters are in any way being misleading. What it means is that agents and teams alike are spreading rumors at a prodigious pace in order to keep their draft plans as secret as possible.
It’s for this reason that New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis may have attacked NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport for saying the Saints were looking to trade up to No. 1 at one point.
Back to Kaepernick, another report Wednesday indicates that the Broncos are still very interested but that they might have some competition. Trade talks are sure to heat up as the draft draws near, and nobody should be shocked if Kaepernick is, indeed, traded this upcoming weekend.
But will he be heading to Denver to presumably take over for Peyton Manning or will Kaepernick be flying across the country to a team on the east coast? These are fascinating questions that will likely be answered in the next few days.
Another interesting question we’d love to know the answer to is this: Why the heck is Kaepernick so darn skinny right now?
