Odell Beckham Jr. expects ‘nothing but greatness’ from cousin Terron Beckham

Never short in the confidence department, Odell Beckham Jr. expects cousin Terron Beckham to be a smashing success in the NFL.

Beckham is hoping to be one of the young men selected when the 2016 NFL Draft kicks off in Chicago on April 28. It’s not an easy sell, considering OBJ’s cousin hasn’t played football since high school. Since then, he’s been working in New York as a model and a personal trainer.

That doesn’t stop the New York Giants receiver from expecting his cousin to experience the type of success he has to this point in his record-breaking young career. Speaking in a video with DraftKings, Beckham Jr. expressed hopeful optimism:

“It’s not too many people that have the opportunity like he has,” Beckham said. “He took the long route, he took hard route. I want him to come in there and shine. … We might be related to David Beckham, so we gotta keep that name up there,” he said. “And it’s got to be nothing but greatness.”

Though Beckham hasn’t played ball in years, that might not be the worst thing in the world. It means his body is fresher than pretty much everyone else entering the draft, and judging by his pro day results he has the athleticism to make some of the best players in the NFL look silly by comparison.

  • 44.5 inch vertical
  • 4.47 40-yard dash
  • 11 foot broad jump
  • 36 reps at 225-pound bench press
  • 6.80 3-cone drill

Here’s a look at Beckham running his 40-yard dash.

Yeah, clearly he and OBJ come from the same gene pool.

It remains to be seen whether or not his outrageous, nay, his freaky physique will translate to success in the NFL. But Beckham has a better shot than most to make some waves.

He’ll be viewed as a project player by NFL teams, but that doesn’t mean he can’t succeed. And if he has any of the same competitive drive that causes OBJ to work tirelessly on his game, despite his own freaky athleticism, then he will.
