Mets minority owner and comedian Bill Maher not a fan of Bryce Harper

Comedian Bill Maher has never been afraid to cause waves. A man that’s known for his sizzling hot political takes, Maher is also a minority owner of the New York Mets.

Naturally, this would make him somewhat subjective in his team’s favor, right?

Well, during a recent appearance on 710 WOR in New York, Maher decided to direct his insults and attacks towards Washington Nationals outfielder Bryce Harper.

It wasn’t pretty.

“You know, I’m not a big Bryce Harper fan,” Maher said before pausing. The Mets minority owner than went on to call Harper a d-bag. Yes folks, we are censoring that a tad here. But we’re pretty sure you can draw your own conclusions about what that means.

A comedian cracking on a public figure is hardly breaking news. A rival team’s minority owner doing so. Well, that can cause a bit of a stir.

Maher’s biggest issue with Harper is the outfielder’s antics on the field — something that has come to light recently due to the youngster’s comments regarding on-field celebrations.

In this, the whole debate regarding unwritten rules of the diamond and a new generation of players wanting to set their own rules has heated up big time.

Always a controversial figure, Harper continues to receive heat from those who want young players to show more respect for the game. Though, it must be noted that he has a few big time supporters around the baseball world, commissioner Rob Manfred included.

It could be that the left-leaning Maher is more upset with Harper’s usage of a hat that makes fun of what is happening in the political world today.

Though, it’s more than likely Maher’s issues are simply based on the fact that Harper suits up for a rival team.

I doubt very much he would have an issue with the outfielder if he were knocking balls out of the park in New York City as a member of the Mets.
