Tom Coughlin indicates the Giants forced him out as head coach

Former New York Giants head coach Tom Coughlin was among the most successful head men in the history of that heralded franchise.

He earned two Super Bowl titles and etched his name in the history books as one of only 13 head coaches to have won multiple Lombardi Trophies.

Coughlin was also forced out as the team’s head coach following three consecutive losing seasons.

At least, this is what the long-time head coach would like us to believe:

“Hey, do I agree with the move? Of course not. I don’t. It hurts, it hurts,” Coughlin told Fox Sports Radio on Tuesday. “‘Former’ is not a good word. I don’t like the word. But, nevertheless, that’s the way it is.”

This isn’t necessarily that much of a surprise. All the indicators following the 2015 season seemed to suggest that CEO John Mara and Co. wanted some new blood in there as head coach.

It’s still the first time that anyone associated with the situation admitted that it wasn’t a mutual parting of the ways — something that seemed rather obvious during Coughlin’s exit press conference back in January:

It also seems that Coughlin isn’t prepared to give up this whole coaching thing. He was seen at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis over the weekend. Unemployed coaches tend to avoid that dog and pony show.

Immediately following his departure from the Giants, Coughlin interviewed for the head coaching job with both the San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Eagles.
