Stephen Jackson: Stephen Curry will never be top-5 all-time NBA player

Joining in the firestorm debate about how great Stephen Curry is or isn’t, former NBA player Stephen Jackson doesn’t think the pure-shooting star of the Golden State Warriors will ever be a top-five all-time NBA player.

Jackson was approached by TMZ on the topic. He views Kobe Bryant and LeBron James as top-five legends but wouldn’t come close to putting Curry in the same category.

Instead, he played down Curry’s exploits, saying “I don’t see [Curry] being one of the top five best ever.” He added, “he’s having a helluva season” but doesn’t think Curry will ever come close to matching what Jordan and James have accomplished in their careers.

It’s an argument that would be vehemently contested by many.

Curry, at the age of 28, has already won a championship and a league MVP trophy. His Warriors are currently on pace to break the all-time single-season wins record, at 60-6 through 66 games, and he’s now broken the league’s record for three-pointers in a single season — three times.

The baby-faced assassin is already entrenching himself as the league’s most dominant pure shooter since Larry Bird, and his Warriors have the potential to win championships for years to come.

So, while it’s true Curry has some work to do going forward to match the overall accomplishments of the game’s all-time greats, it seems awfully foolish to assume he won’t get he job done. But that’s just one man talking, here.
